Here is a video of what happens when someone asks what else can be done with kitchen knives...

  1. Good one. Don't think I have ever got a knife sharp enough to shave with in over 50 years, but they do the job I need them for okay. Still it would be nice to be able to get them that sharp without any special stones etc. Would running the blade over a strap make the difference?

  2. The strop would help... BUT... your kinfes edge is probably set up for a slicing cut, not a cleaving action. One way to test this out is the hanging hair test (HHT) the blade should pop a hanging or standing hair away from the skin. So you can wave the blade over the arm hairs and see if it took the tops of them off without touching the skin :p Back in the day fine grits and powders where rubbed into leather straps and used as razor finishing strops. The same can be done with your knives. I'll see what I can put together and do a post on it :p
